The concept of WASH, groups together water supply, sanitation, and hygiene because the impacts of deficiencies in each area overlap strongly. Lack of WASH facilities can prevent students from attending school, impose a burden on women, and diminish productivity. Worldwide, at least 500 million women and girls lack adequate, safe, and private facilities for managing menstrual hygiene. Addressing these deficiencies together can achieve a strong positive impact on public health by improving health, life expectancy, student learning, gender equality, and other important issues of international development. Teen Africa intervenes in this area by carrying out school based trainings and awareness campaigns on the importance of WASH and proper menstrual hygiene management education.
